The LinkedIn Algorithm & Post Optimization: A Guide for 2026
Having a hard time getting anyone to see your posts on LinkedIn?
You aren't alone.
Since LinkedIn instituted its proprietary algorithm, content creators of all sizes have seen their impressions not just reduced, but reduced in some cases posts are shown to just a few dozen people, even when content creators have hundreds of thousands of followers.
Here is what we've discovered are the behaviors that trigger algorithm purgatory, as well as suggestions for how to get around them.
1. Trying to funnel traffic off of LinkedIn.
LinkedIn makes money from people seeing ads on the platform. In one analysis by us, an average of 7-9 out of every 30 posts were ads, or "boosted" posts. LinkedIn favors posts that increase how long you spend on the platform, "Dwell Time," and how long you keep scrolling, "Depth Score."
Including an external link in your post body is the kiss of death. We conducted research and found that posts with links in the body receive 30%-50% less impressions than the same posts without a link.
And don't think you can put the link in the comments. That may have worked in the past, but today? The comments are hidden by the platform.
The solution: Tag your company page in the post and make sure that your CTA on the page is to visit your site.
2. Trying to trigger the algorithm through fake engagement.
Have you ever seen a post that has dozens of likes and comments, but it's only been live for 24 minutes? It's probably because the engagers are in a pod — typically a WhatsApp group or Slack channel, where people share links to their posts and the rest of the members immediately engage. But, you can't outsmart the algorithm. It uses Natural Language Processing (NLP) to determine if the comments on the post are natural engagement, or bots/20 people saying "Great point!"
The solution: Write your post so that people naturally want to comment. That doesn't mean trolling or rage baiting, but including a CTA with a question that lets people show off their knowledge. Also continue the conversation in the comments.
3. "Ghosting" Anxiety & The 24-Hour Bloom.
Many thought-leaders say that the first 60-90 minutes are the most important window, and if your posts are not getting engagement, then they'll be stuck.
However, in our experience, it can take up to 24 hours for a post to really get traction. Sometimes deleting a post and then re-uploading it will get you better impressions. Perhaps the timing was wrong at first and the people who would engage with your content weren't on LinkedIn yet. However, you can further penalize your content as the algorithm will mark you for "spam-like behavior."
The solution: Breathe new life into your content by going and thoughtfully commenting on other people's posts in your feed. It can help you in 2 ways:
- LinkedIn rewards creators who spend time engaging with other content.
- You'll develop real relationships with other people on LinkedIn, and naturally (organically if you will), you'll have your own cadre of connections who happily engage with your content (and not in a pod-like way).
