Why a Fractional CMO

Most Companies Don't Need a Full-Time CMO.

They need better decisions, not more meetings.

A great CMO doesn't keep busy — they drive results. My role is to decide what will actually grow your business and eliminate everything that won't.

A Fractional CMO Decides:

Which channels deserve investment
What the sales team actually needs
Which campaigns should stop
Which marketing activities create revenue
Which customers are actually profitable
Where your next marketing dollar should go

Where the Time Actually Goes

Not literally accurate. Conceptually accurate.

More time isn't the solution.

Better decisions are.

A fractional CMO brings senior-level judgment without the overhead. You get an experienced leader laser-focused on the initiatives that actually move the needle.

Real Results

Marketing Wins

The work is finding the marketing processes that aren't delivering — and replacing them with ones that do.

What Wasn’t Working

Marketing was running as a set of disconnected efforts. Everyone sent their own emails, paid campaigns were optimized on dashboard metrics instead of revenue, and no one owned the whole picture.

What I Rebuilt

Rebuilt the engine channel by channel: shut down the ad-hoc sending and replaced it with one coordinated newsletter program, rebuilt the landing pages and geographic targeting, and put reporting in place that ties spend to pipeline instead of clicks.

What It Delivered

  • Email became a real lead-gen channel — click rate up 7×
  • Paid search became efficient enough to scale — cost per lead down ~86%
  • Organic search reached the highest monthly traffic in company history

Marketing Operations • Email Program • Paid Search • SEO

What Wasn’t Working

The marketing was still built around a single niche the company had already outgrown. Content, SEO, and positioning all pointed at ballast water, so five other industries the technology served never saw themselves in it.

What I Rebuilt

Repositioned the company as a global filtration business, then rebuilt the content strategy, SEO program, and thought leadership around the industries it actually sells into.

What It Delivered

  • Organic traffic more than doubled
  • LinkedIn reach grew nearly 20×
  • The market started seeing the whole business, not one product line

Positioning • SEO • Content Strategy

Purple Plum

What Wasn’t Working

There was no marketing function at all — it was being absorbed by sales between deals, which meant it was always the first thing dropped.

What I Rebuilt

Built the function from nothing: positioning first, then a new website, an SEO strategy, and a content plan the team could actually keep running without me.

What It Delivered

  • Website traffic tripled
  • Marketing stopped competing with selling time

Brand Strategy • Website • SEO

What Wasn’t Working

Most firms recommend tactics they've never run themselves. I didn't want to pitch a channel to a client until I knew whether it worked.

What I Rebuilt

Turned our own site into the testing ground — every channel gets validated small here before it's recommended anywhere. Email, Reddit, and two years of organic LinkedIn all got tested before any of it became a client playbook.

What It Delivered

  • A repeatable playbook, proven before it reached a client
  • The Reddit approach later drove 2,000 visits in 10 days for a client
  • Three paying clients from organic LinkedIn — zero ad spend

Testing & Iteration • Email • Organic Social

How It Works

What Your Fractional CMO Actually Does

Not a task list. A system for deciding what deserves attention.

1

Understand

  • What's working and what isn't
  • Competitors
  • Customer interviews
  • ICP
2

Prioritize

  • Kill low-impact projects
  • Find the biggest growth opportunities
  • Build the plan
3

Execute

  • Website
  • Social
  • Email
  • PR
  • Sales enablement
4

Measure

  • Pipeline
  • Lead quality
  • Conversion rates
  • Revenue
5

Repeat

  • Name what's genuinely working
  • Shelve what's run its course
  • Amplify where the returns are
  • Reassess the strategy on the rest

Just as Important

Things I Tell Clients "No" To

Not every marketing idea is a good idea.

  • Rebranding before fixing positioning
  • Launching a new website before understanding buyers
  • Spending more on ads before fixing conversion
  • Starting TikTok because competitors did
  • Publishing more blogs before defining an SEO strategy
  • Hiring another marketer instead of fixing priorities

Sometimes the highest ROI marketing decision is deciding what not to do.

We Work With a Limited Number of Clients at a Time

As a boutique firm, we intentionally cap how many clients we take on, so every engagement gets senior attention, not a junior account manager. If it's time to talk, let's find out if we have room.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to hire sales too?

No. Every marketing client gets input from our fractional VP Sales on what buyers actually need to hear, even if you never hire us for sales. That's built into how we work, not an upsell.

How do I know if you have room for another client?

We only take on a limited number of clients at a time. Reach out and we'll tell you honestly whether we have capacity right now.

Do you have your own team?

Not a standing one, and that's deliberate — an agency bench is an overhead you'd end up paying for. I keep costs down by staying lean. When a project needs more hands, I'll either help you hire the right person or bring in freelancers I've worked with and trust.

How long do you work with clients?

As long as I'm the best fit for the role. I've stayed with clients for years. I've also told clients their marketing had outgrown this model and it was time to bring it in-house — because staying would have limited their growth. At the end of the day, my reputation and your success are what matter most to me.

What does it cost?

See our full services and pricing page for current packages — pricing depends on whether you need senior oversight of a marketing function you already have, or full ownership.
